Chipmunk 3 by Bagheera3 Chipmunk 3 by Bagheera3
The acorn was carved from basswood. The chipmunk was carved from tupelo ( a light weight /very little grained/ swamp wood - like cypress trees). The stone at the front was made from plaster and the top oak leaf was made from sheet brass. It has been entered in a few wood shows and has done very well. This is perhaps the carving I like best. It took about 60 hours.

This adorable little Chipmunk 3 is carved in wood and amazingly well done. The details, the lifelikeness and personality are top notch! ~Bagheera3 is new to dA, but already has an impressive gallery! ( Featured by Myana )

Thanks Yes It started as a block of wood, a pattern and a band saw. Then aram (rotary cutting tool like a dremel)

Thank you. Carving has become a great hobby, especially since retirement. I do not use a knife - rotary tools are the only way I can do it.

The chipmunk was made from tupelo. If you enter the carvings in a wood show then you must make everything, only the eyes can be glass.
