I have added a base to the dead tree. I think it looks better this way. I will probably add an oak leaf and nut when I get a chance.

Your attention to detail really bring this piece to life, almost like looking at the creature frozen in time. I also like the base you've put to this piece, but I think the seam should be entirely hidden by the sawdust-chips I see to the left, I think it would make the log better appear to be stuck in the base, as a tree would be stuck in the ground. Otherwise, I like this piece a lot.
